Learning to Write

A Watchmaker's Precision Build Leads to More Questions

In a day and age when lines of code are often the base of new technology, is it still worth understanding how a pure, moving mechanism is supposed to work? I think about that a lot. Watch this video then ask yourself: If you had to un-assemble then re-assemble a simple mechanism, could you?

I've seen billboards in Chicago recently encouraging an "Hour of Code" for kids and adults alike. And, it's a good challenge: try coding, you might be good at it. Where's the challenge, though, to understand the moving pieces of the physical world? What's the construct to understand the interaction between a formed sentence in our brain and the act to affect it in a concrete manner on the page, in a deliberate way?
